Stimulating magazine ‘The time of your life’
The magazine ‘The time of your life’ is the first and only magazine for people with dementia. It is a quarterly publication that, alongside nostalgic images, also makes use of scent, sound and touch. With this magazine, the focus is not on the disease, but on the reader. It works in collaboration with the VU medical center (Amsterdam) and the project is subsidized by the VSB fund, RCOAK and Nuts-Ohra.
The magazine ‘The time of your life’ stimulates the senses, allowing it to reach and touch the reader. Each quarter a new edition is published with a different main theme and different sensory elements. Sometimes you feel sheep’s wool, sometimes a piece of chalk from a schoolboard. Sometimes you hear a radio broadcast from Snip and Snap, sometimes a song from the past. Each theme also includes a scent, for example the smell of grass, coal or sweets. ‘The time of your life’ lets someone with dementia constantly experience and live something familiar. For more detailed information and a video about using the magazine, you can visit: www.detijdvanjeleven.com.

‘Growing older together in the Indian Quarter’ (A project of Flevohuis and MDSO)
Moroccan, Dutch, Turkish and Surinamese 55+ year-olds looked at what contribution they could make together to life and living in the Indian Quarter in Amsterdam-Zeeburg. From December 2003 to March 2004, they met weekly to talk about family, relatives and neighborhood life, past and present.
At the end of March 2004, they jointly organized an exhibition there.
